= ------------------------------------------------------ = _ -- Canon in Dee -- _ A True Classic by Johann Pachelbel Arranged by Shawn Martin (The Wise Goat of the Mountain) = ------------------------------------------------------ = It's time to pay tribute to our roots: Here it is, "my" version of Canon in D by Johann Pachelbel, orchastrated by me, Shawn Martin. If you immediatly turn this song off realizing "OH MY GOD! CLASSICAL MUSIC!" your an absolute moron, and deserve to die. Where do you think modern music CAME from? When I first heard this song (no, not at a wedding!) I thought Pachelbel was a contemporary composer, as in, still alive. It sure sounds that way! Aparently he's been dead for more then 300 years now -- talk about being ahead of his time! (or maybe we're just regressing?) And NO, this is not a wedding song either! It just happens to be a good theme for this song, because unlike most music out there, this song is HAPPY! = ------------------------------------------------------- = Send comments, money, or your own renditions of classical classics (i'd love to hear them) to: cmartin_freenet.edmonton.ab.ca or (most unperferably): shaggyclone_hotmail.com = ------------------------------------------------------- =

It's kinda funny to think that the first time I ever heard Canononind, it was a half-assed midi played over a funky keyboard speaker in my ancient Atari ST when I was 6 years old. Dispite the laughable sound it would produce these days, at the time I thought it was beautiful music no matter what, and have loved it ever since. Ever since I got into MODs, I looked for a version of Canon in D that would do the original song justice, but I pretty much heard a sound very similar, if not worse than the Atari ST version. in 2 years, this is the first version to ever surprise me. This is not some crappy 2 sample copy of the sheet music, this is actually an original work. it has a creative energy that most MODs lack. The thing that most impressed me was the use of bass, and timpini, and mostly the accompanying sounds, the first time I've ever heard a decent accompaninment to this song in a MOD ever, and I'll tell you, That backwards Cymbal gave me chills. Now, I hate to do it, but I also have to throw in the cons of this piece. There are some parts in the song where the sample is a bit edgy or loud, the accoustic guitar needed to be softer and pluckier. some of the higher pitched samples could have used some softening too. But the creative effort is still there, and that's where this song really shines. If you are a true lover of music, download this song. I personally can't wait to see what this guy comes up with next. The instrumentation in this song, for the most part, is so good, you don't tend to notice the 8 bit samples. The accoustic guitar sounded a little too sharp, and those samples tended to lose a bit of quality when they hit the high notes. But for the most part, this song sounds very clean, and the bass and other such lower accompanying sounds make up a LOT.
