In the author's comments, he said that it's one of the worst tunes he's ever made. I'm not sure if I've heard anything else by Heatbeat, so I can't verify that. The tune itself certainly isn't a great tune, but it didn't sound as bad as the author claimed. What I will say is that it doesn't sound like a particularly inspired tune - the melody wasn't very interesting. I enjoy a good chip tune as much as the next guy. However, this one just didn't have enough to really make it enjoyable. It's pretty minimalist, even for chip, and very short. It's not utter crap, but it's probably not worth the time it takes to download and listen. Fairly small sample set. The author exhibits some knowledge of this style of music, using the percussion to as good effect as possible. The author also uses arpeggios to "simulate" a chord, which is a fairly typical convention of chip music. The song didn't has as "full" a sound as other chip tunes I've heard, it was too constrained for its own good.
