Boy, did I ever not get what I was expecting. With a song entitled "Kings and Knights," I was expecting a generic orchestral mod, but instead I got a generic synth pop mod. It's not poorly done, to be sure - it's just that this song has nothing that makes it stand out. For starters, it's very short, and it's entirely based on two chords. There's not many places you can go with a mod if that's what you're limited to. I would say it's well tracked overall, and since it appears to be background music for something, probably accomplishes its goal. But it's not something that's really worth listening to on a regular basis. Sample quality is excellent. All samples are 16 bit and stereo. In fact, the author doesn't even need to bother with his own stereo panning, as it's all done by the samples. Depending on your point of view, this may or may not be a good thing - I'm of the opinion that the sound in the end is all that really matters, so the stereo samples aren't a huge deal to me. Overall, the techniques applied to this song don't appear to be anything out of the ordinary, but they get the job done. If only it could have been a more memorable tune.
