"Wir Happy Hippos" Original Tracker: CCB Original Format: 4-channel MOD from 1992 Remixed, remastered, and revamped by Novus in 2001. December 2nd, 2001, to be precise. ;) Greetz, y'all! I know I said the same thing in the Song Message for "Beacon" two years ago, but geez, it's been WAY too long since I released my last tune. Does this mean I'm back? Darned if I know... no promises this time. All of you 1337 0ldsk00lers out there oughta recognize this blast from the past: "Wir Happy Hippos," also known as "fanta2.mod". Back when I was still just downloading 4-channel MODs from dial-in BBSs and was blissfully unaware of S3Ms, XMs, and ITs, "Wir Happy Hippos" was one of my favorite tracks to listen to. But as I got more into the more advanced tracker formats, I gradually lost or deleted much of my personal MOD collection. The old 4-voicers sounded downright obsolete next to the shiny, happy S3Ms with, *gasp*, THIRTY-TWO TRACKS! And since I had limited space on Dad's hard drive at the time, the 4-channel MODs were the first to go. I don't know what I was smokin' when I deleted "Wir Happy Hippos," but I've regretted it for some time. So when I stumbled across it over on The MOD Archive (http://www.modarchive.com), I snatched it up. And that's when it hit me: this tune was just too dang catchy to leave chained up in 4 channels with 0ldsk00l 8-bit chord samples. So, I left the synth hook alone (hey, how could I really improve on it?), replaced the drum loops, invented a new bassline, and attacked the tune with my favorite piano sample. The results are a bit simplistic, but hey, that's the point with this tune. If you want something dynamic and complex, go listen to Warder or Leviathan or something. Otherwise, just sit back and feel the groove, and you'll be a happy hippo too before ya know it. If ya feel like it, stop by at http://www.novusmusic.org for all of my other tunes, not to mention mind-blowingly awesome music from other trackers and my collection of Tracking Tips. Oh, and keep bugging me at vince_young_hotmail.com, and I might actually get off my lazy butt and release new trackage more often. Or not. You know, real life and all that. Keep it real! I like this one; so fun than the original. And thank you to know me the original artist and the year: there's no information about it in the track.
