"Tipsy Cougar" By Rikimbo (aka Eric Himbeault) August 31st, 2004 -------------------- This is my 5th module. I played around with some odd chords in order to get the right dissonance for this kind of music... There is alot of repetition in this one, and if this isn't your style of music, then this piece probably just gets on your nerves... But hey, give me a break. I'm still novice, and I had alot of fun writing this one, ok? So enjoy it. -------------------- Samples: Tambourine -- ds_myst.xm (DreamSection) Drum -- ds_myst.xm (DreamSection) Snare Crash -- ds_myst.xm (DreamSection) Cymbal -- ds_myst.xm (DreamSection) Bass -- dansze.xm (Reed) Brass -- cherryjm.xm (Reed) Sax -- nino_space jazz experiment.it (Nino) other samples taken from GM.DLS -------------------- Rikimbo_hotmail.com

Well, to tell the truth, i am not a great jazz fan. I always thought that style of music a bit too chaotic, a bit too impromptu. But this tune caught my ear at once because of its adjusted composition. That strange term means that, to my maybe faltering musical sense, all the sounds, all the notes of the composition are at their respective places. And though the tune starts rather abruptly, and ends in almost the same way (that's why "good/amateur"), it does not lack harmony. A bit too short, a bit too much repetition, but the main theme is very nice and the work of brass and background organ are almost outstanding. Not much to say, besides that to my mind the techical side is almost perfectly done. Some samples are 8bit, some 16bit, BUT! My favourite test of all tunes was and still is listening to it via ear-phones: if level of hum, buzz and crackle is not excessive for pleasant listening, then samples are good. In that case, they are. The instruments are also very nicely done and sound pretty natural (even if you make the tune in a .WAV). With all that, the size of the file is rather small - one more credit to the author. All after all, the author writes in the comment to this tune that it is his 5th attempt altogether. Very and very well done for the 5th tune! (I hate to remember MY 5th tune :)) I think we should expect many new and nice tunes from this author. Je te souhaite bonne chance, Rikimbo!
