A St3vor Production... Dark Worlds: Part 2 ---Ancient Outposts--- (c) December 2000 **The Following is the next chapter of DARK WORLDS.** **Recommended That you listen to Part 1 before ** **reading the story below. ** ***************************************************** The Story Continues... 1) The Desert === The Sudden stillness of the air and sounds around you give you the feeling of danger. You begin to feel vibrations in the ground. The exit to the small canyon is but about 80 meters away. Spontaneous action causes you to run for your life as the Vibrations in the ground become more consistant and stronger. You reach the exit of the canyon not 2 seconds befor the violent earth tremors causes a rockslide which falls down and blocks the entrance back into the canyon. -a quick sigh of relief and you turn to view what now lies before you. You look around you to find you are on a large desert platau. The dimm sunlight on the sand fails to heat the place much. Infact it isnt even hot at all. A desert with no heat. You scan the horizon which seems endless. Looking behind you to the right and to the left, a large endless rockface that stretches in both directions as far as you can see. Looking up, the color of the sky: Browny orange, reminds you that you should be expecting anything to happen. You see smoke on the horizon. You decide to investigate... 2) The Village You emerge out of the desert into a more temperate terrain. Lots of trees and bush now surround you. Looking back is the desert. Looking forwards is the village. You press forwards. Upon large posts is a banner with the words: Lord Chython's Festival. The writing is very hard to read as it is writtin in an unknown style. But it is english. You draw eyes everywhere by the villagers as you walk through town. Festive Music fills your ears as you move towards a large amphitheatre where it looks like half the town is celebrating. For what reason is unknown to you. You ask around to see what you can find out about the gateway home. The people here are very generous and kind towards unknown people. You learn of the festival underway in the village as a tribute to Lord Chython. The ruler of the Seven Portals and all adjacent worlds. He is the beast you saw on top of the tower at the seven portals. You also learn of an outpost situated on the edge of what the people refer to as the Milphur Ridge. You learn of a gateway that lies somewhere inside. They are unsure of where it leads to though. They also tell of other people like you who pass through thier village asking the same questions. Once they leave for the outpost, they are never seen again. You have 80 pieces of gold on you. You decide to purchase yourself some weapons. You buy a sword and some plate armor. After spending some money on weapons and the like, you gather up some provisions and be on your way. You thank the villagers for their help and wave goodbye. learning from a map that was given you, you follow your way along a path from the village towards the Milphur Ridge where this Outpost is located... 3) The Outpost It is nearly night by the time you reach the edge of a new desert. Apart from a few trees and shrubs around the area the place is as dead as anything. Still you press forwards. You stop and scan the horizon. The faint image of a building is within view of you. You surmise that this is the place you were directed to go. About an hour or so later, you arrive at a tall rock fortress sitting on the edge of a cliff that follows on for miles in each direction with no end in sight. You look down over the cliff and see nothing but clouds. You dont want to fall off. It will be a long time to think of how painful the landing would be. You walk around the outside of the fortress. Looking up, you see a large balcony surrounding the fortress high above the ground. Large tattered flags with some weird unknown creature embroided onto them hang along the edge of the balconys. Statues of gargoyles are placed about every 10 meters apart from each other on overhangs that jut out of the side of the huge towering fortress walls. Continuing around the fortress you find what you gather is the entrance to the fortress. A huge Stone door. All your strength barely suffices to open the doors. After you heave the doors open just enough for you to fit through, you look inside to see what is there. The inside has very little lighting. You grab a torch of the wall and scramble around in your pockets for a flint. You light the torch and proceed into the fortress. Looking around you notice the bodies of huge humanlike creatures hanging mutilated from the walls. The scurrying of rats around your feet and the total lack of any other sound puts your mind on full alert as you make your way around. You draw your sword as you begin to hear a loud demonic chant begin to fill the room. You spin around to determine where abouts it is coming from but you are unable to locate it. As if the walls are talking. You see the outline of a door on a far wall, you proceed towards it. With great caution, you place your head against the door to see if you can hear anything coming from the other side. Nothing is heard. You open the door and freeze on the spot as the demonic chanting suddenly ceases. Panic is slowly gripping you now. Sword clentched tightly in your hand you move into the next room to find that it is totally empty. A small Wicker basket in the corner of the room is all you find. Scanning around again you see another door. You open it and go through. You find yourself standing now in a courtyard in the center of the outpost. A large fire in a pit in the center is all you see. Fearing the worst on the groud, you hurry up the stariway to the above balcony to get a better view of the place. It is night now. You look down into the courtyard and watch in amazement as the fire in the center of the courtyard takes shape of an unknown creature. The Fire Spawn senses new prey in the area. It walks out from the pit and looks in your direction. The fire in the pit goes out, and forms a large pool of what appears to be water. A luminance being emitted from the pool gives you the impression that this is the gateway that the villagers talked of. You must reach it. The firespawn is all what stands in you way. You rush to a well you see in the far corner of the courtyard and you jump in. Being only shallow, you climb out, grab a bucket and fill it with water. The fire spawn sees you and rushes towards you. You dodge as a jet of fire streams past your body and into a bail of hay near you. You pick up the bucket of water and run around to the far corner of the yard. The Fire Spawn Folows. Your successful attack races towards the Firespawn just as it is about to swipe at you and you empty the water all over it. It slumps to a heap and half of it solidifies. It now has a weak spot. You run around again as the Fire Spawn regains itself and comes after you again. Its upper half now made of solid substance. It attacks you again, you dodge as another swipe of the fire spawns huge arm grazez your shoulder and leaves a nasty burn. You manage to get to your feet and run around again. Using your good arm, you charge at the creature and slice throught its solidified section with your sword. It screams in massive pain as it falls to the ground and extinguishes in front of you. You have defeated it. 4) The Seven Portals. You want out of this place. You jump into the pit of water. You now find yourself back at the seven portals. You climb to your feet and look around. You discover that the gateway at the far end of the courtyard is sealed. The way home is sealed. You try with all your might to get into it. But you cannot. A mocking laughter begins ringing in your ears. You turn around to see the eyes of the statue of Chython glowing green and looking down at you. You scream your anger at the statue before all becomes silent again. You gather your belongings and move towards another portal. Maybe you can find help in another world. You open the doors and see the next gateway. The humming grows loud as you move closer towards it. You plunge into the portal. Your next adventure starts here... Apologies if you dont finnish reading befor the song ends. I tried to truncate the story a bit but this is all i could shorten it too.
