the melody of the song's quite good, but it is goooooing soooo sloooowly, that after playing it one or two times it gets boring. and, because the original song (this one seems to be some kind of a remake) was already about 2min long, i just can't get what CPIasminc actually done. in any case, the main melodic line have got few very good parts with nice harmonic effect, so the entire tune gets an overall 6. i don't know why the bells samples are this big (1MB for 3 tones), and why there's no beat except some 'DOng' sounds - so i decided to make up this tune alittle. my remix will arrive on TMA shortly, and i'm feeling imho the song is somewhat better when done in *my* way. =) anyway, i'm open for comments. =) [+- this review is a part of Review Santa Claus project =) -+]

*Reverse-Engineered* Tired Eyes
-------------------------------
C.P.I. / ASMiNC

original by Landlord.

This is based off of a relatively recent unfinished piece by Eric Kolb(Landlord)
This was a little project he was playing with in Reason, but after getting
through about 2 and a half minutes (or at least, that was the last snapshot I
heard), he lost the file in a major HDD crash.  Rather sad, but there's not much
to save you there.  End result, no song, no Reason file, no score, and loss of
relative train of thought.

So here I am trying to breath life into the piece again.
Unfortunately, since I have no score for it, I have to do it by ear...
And I did a not-so-great job of that, but so-so.
Strangely enough, that very feature used to kill any tracks I tried to write in
the old days.  Now, it seems I've actually gotten halfway decent at it.
Also, this piece tends to show that I've gotten a lot better at improvisation
than I once was.  A lot of the extensions I fleshed out here are completely
extemporaneous.

Now for audio alerts --
My monitors at the time of writing this were a little pair of old Labtecs.  The
quality is good, but they're nowhere near the sheer power of the multi-hundred
dollar speaker systems.  It should be well-noted that the dynamics of this song
are kinda written with that kind of system in mind.  Conversely, when I bring
this file up to a machine that has some tinny little out-of-the-box speakers,
and a lot of details are completely lost in all the busy parts.  In fact, one
of the instruments is almost inaudible throughout the song!

Moreover, do NOT play this straight out in Winamp!!  The volumes are rendered
so *utterly* WRONG that words escape me.  It was done in Modplug Tracker, so
it should be heard in Modplug.  If you're really bent on hearing it in Winamp,
then do use the equalizer, boosting mids mostly.

I know I broke a few rules here, like doubling up, but I found that some of the
samples are crappy enough that doubling up hides some of the deficiencies.
Granted, chords do a much better job, but chords were not welcome through the
*entire* song, after all.  Don't be surprised by some of the weird ringing you
get.  That's intentional.

Why are the samples so crappy?  Simply because I made most of them myself.
And most of what I didn't make myself were GM samples...  cry.  There was one
instrument in the original that I never could fabricate, so I had to leave it
out.  It was percussive, though, and was mostly used to break up the
mechanical regularity of the rhythm here.  Maybe if I ever generate a
reasonable facsimile of it, I'll add it in.  But for now, here's version
1.0.

And if I did have Reason and the original file to continue from, and a
machine powerful enough to run it, then yes, this song would sound 1000x
better.  Give me money now.

My secret message!  You've found it!!  and no Cap'n Crunch decoder ring
needed!

One who walks alone has nothing in the way of variables or even of himself.
Remove a degree of freedom and he knows which way is up.  But only by being
among many does one know the human condition.  Being human means not knowing
how to put two and two together, while at the same time being adept with
chopsticks.  Or vice versa...  or neither.  The latter 2 being several times
more common.  Being human means knowing what a moron is without ever taking
a look in the mirror.  Never being able to walk and chew gum at the same
time.  Those who can do more can only walk alone...  and never have a single
degree of freedom because of it.
