The melody is based on a bass line and a pan-flute line. It's not a striking musical revolution, but it's ok. The beat is cool enough, although it doesn't change at all throughout the song. Well... the synth sample does NOT go with the indian flute-thingy! It sounds rather bad. The volume slide stuff on the synth is not excactly improving my first impression of the song either. Practice on these things and maybe you'll do better next time.

Overall Impression (8/10)

Well, I'm biased, as the founder of the very brief BBS cracking group LOGiC, this and another of Timelord's tracks were submitted as a sort of application to be our sound designer. He was a user of my brother's BBS 'The Neutral Zone' and over the course of the spring and summer of '93 wound up meeting at his house where he gave us the diskette with this track and another that mentions LOGiC in the notes. I give this a solid 8 because it was only his second work that I know of, being preceded by Vortex mod. That being said, it's quite good for someone who was just starting out doing these mods.

Technique, Arrangement, Composition (6/10)

He was more or less a novice at tracking at this point so I think he was doing better than most with the same level of experience

Development (7/10)

There are a few spots where I'm like 'whoa.. what was that' but they're fleeting and don't really detract from the song.. Lots of people comment on the simplistic sound of the bouncy keyboard synth in there, and agreed, he could have done something better there, but in the end, it portrays a nice, relaxed mood and is easy to listen to, even if it is a bit dated.

Creativity (8/10)

I like how he used the sounds of Enigma and created a whole new 'experience' with them.

Enjoyment (8/10)

I think it works nicely.. sure there could have been some different samples used, but the volume mixing, blending, sustain and other things that are hard to loop are fairly impressive in this early piece of Timelord work.

Additional Comment

I knew and met Timelord in the fall of 1993 when he gave us this piece of music and another with dedications to LOGiC in the credits, and watched him work on a piece while we were visiting him. Interesting stuff. I couldn't do it, but this guy seemed to be all over it. I don't remember his name and I'm trying to get clarification but the person here called 'Rob' I believe is the real Timelord. The piece he released back in 2013 "16 years later" is in his style, sounds like something he would have come up with and the notes are in his style of writing, so I'm inclined to believe Rob is the real Timelord. Rob, if you read this and want to give me a call, I'm Daryl's brother from 'The Neutral Zone' and was the one who wrote the walkthru to Blue Wave that carried this track in the ascii. Surely you remember us. 575-405-0360. I live in New Mexico now
