This tune could have been much better. There are some good melodies and counter-melodies, but no overall musical direction. It feels as if the song is building to a crescendo around 1:30, but then suddenly it drops away in a bad anticlimax. The tune is also very short - barely 2 minutes - which doesn't give it much time to develop. The main problem with this tune is that individual tracks or parts are introduced and muted again too suddenly. Two good examples are the first time the bass/snare beat enters, and the arpeggiated countermelody around 1:15. Both of these tracks simply stop in the next pattern, with no final note, echo, or other signal to the listener. Being dropped roughly like that makes the piece less entertaining. The samples overall are okay, and the bassdrum/snare beat could add a lot of energy to the tune if it was better-executed.

A slow, soft ballad. Very smooth and calm, but some parts of the melody could have been expressed better. The song probably should have built more dynamically; it's a bit boring as it is. The melody is rather repetetive as well. The background string/whatever samples are soft and clean. The main melody sample would have been an excellent choice if it had been executed properly - a nice airy sound like this needs to be played using several tracks, so it doesn't cut itself off. A stereo-echo would have added to the depth as well.

This tune is an example of anti-music, which is to say that it is intentionally bad. However, this doesn't change the fact that it's bad. The tune is basically a drum sequence that builds for about 30 seconds to an annoying, loud hum that bends downward, and then the song ends. The tech rating is fairly irrelevant in this case. The samples are distorted and sound bad, but this is partly intentional. The downward-bending hum is loud, buzzy, and obnoxious.

The first two minutes of this song are typical cheese-metal, and not particularly fun to listen to. At 1:50 there's a sudden switch to a soft, melodic section that rises to a moderate volume. Some alright harmonies follow. At around three minutes the cheese-metal returns, accompanied by a sample of a loud, distorted belch. Yum! This leads into what is basically a terrible ending. The vocal samples in this tune have to be of the worst quality I've ever had the displeasure of hearing. The belching, vomiting metal-singer manages to make this song sound even worse than it would have otherwise. The only way to make it even less musical would be to take samples of jet engines and play them at double volume over the rest of the tune. Speaking of tunes, all of these samples are out of tune with each other, and it sounds awful.

This song starts mellow and builds into a soft distorted riff after a minute or so. At this point, it becomes quite repetetive. There's a real lack of melody in this song. Mercifully, a bridge section enters around 5 minutes, but at this point one becomes quite aware of the out-of-tune samples. This song probably belongs in the Realm of the Recycling Bin, I'm sorry to say. Many of the samples are quite old, and the guitars will sound familiar if you've heard any rock-'n'-roll-style MOD's before. The percussion samples are of poor quality and sound very muddy. Furthermore, there are some bad sample cuts, and a few samples are out of tune.

This song is another of your stock repetetive dance tunes. The melodies are simple at best, the groove stays the same for the entire song, and the whole thing is extremely predictable. Thumbs down. Supposedly, this is a 24-channel XMOD, but I really think there must be something wrong with my player. Perhaps it's a 24-channel tune that only uses 5 channels at any one time... the percussion in this tune was weak, and the minor use of stereo wasn't too impressive.

This song begins with some weak, dinky chords and a quirky percussion beat. About two minutes later, nothing much else has happened, except for a lot of repetition and a rather bad melody halfway through. Unfortunately, not worth downloading. The hihat sounds feeble, and the guitar (?) sample at one minute is horridly out of tune with the rest of the song. For a multi-channel XMOD, this tune is a big disappointment technically. There isn't really much else to say.

This song seems to be out of tune with itself the entire way through. It's most noticeable in the introduction, but continues to nag afterward as well. There's quite a bit of repetition, and not too much melody. The highlight of the song is around 1:20 when the "pretty good samples" come in. Later on there's a weird attempt to superimpose swing time with straight time, and it nearly works - but not quite. Overall a bit of a snoozer. The pulsing bass at the start was okay and raised a little tension, and the "pretty good samples" at 1:20 were pretty good. Some of the percussion loops were pretty crisp. Overall there isn't a lot of technical wizardry in this tune, though.

This song starts with a soft percussive intro that slowly adds tracks for about a minute. It then basically loops for another minute, which is awfully boring. At around 2:30, some strings come in, but they sound totally aimless and have no real rhythm or melody to them. There's a brief section without the strings, and then they come back in to end the tune. This song nearly put me to sleep. The percussion sounds alright, though it didn't vary too much, so it's hard to rate it. There were maybe 3 noticeable samples other than the percussion, and that's being generous. Stereo panning wasn't used much at all, and overall the song had a monotonous feel throughout.

This song follows a similar groove the whole way through, and though the chords change occasionally, the overall feel is the same. It also could have done with a more distinct melody - though the trade-off of notes between the bass and mid-range makes a good backing track, there's really nothing that interesting happening. For an XMOD, this tune is a bit disappointing. The percussion has no real bite, and the tune could have used more stereo panning throughout. The samples are of acceptable quality, but nothing special.

This song contains a few vocals thrown in here and there. Though they're a little weak and mumbly, they still add to the uniqueness of the sound. The cut-offs at 1:20, 2:20, and the end of the song don't fit too well musically, and really interrupt the flow a bit. The section at 2:00 when the melodies overlap has some nice harmonies. Overall the song is somewhat short and doesn't hit hard at all. The vocals are mumbly and don't fit perfectly into the song. Acceptable samples and decent backgrounds. The main hi-hat is a little bland and could use some echo, panning, or whatever.

The majority of this song is based around one chord pattern, which really makes it hard to get excited when listening to it. The song ends without showing a real melody at all, which is disappointing. If there had been some sort of lead line over the backgrounds, this song might have gone somewhere. The backgrounds are average, and there are no major mistakes. The samples aren't really exciting at all, but nothing is out of place. Overall, a fairly forgettable song in the technical department.

Okay, this is the third "ICQ song" that's been uploaded, and I'd like to request that people STOP IT. The entire first 2 minutes of this song are a boring background with a bunch of ICQ sounds played over top. The last 3 minutes - well, they're pretty much the same thing. To sum it all up: this song is pointless. Surprisingly, half the samples are straight from ICQ. (ahem) Unfortunately, the rest of the song doesn't have very much technical merit... the "uh-oh" is echoed and the zooming sound is panned from one side to the other. Overall, there's nothing about this song to make your jaw drop, except the fact that 1Mb of space can really be used on something so pointless. The rest of the samples are uninteresting and used in an extremely average manner.

A nice underwater mood to this piece. As Discus says, it probably makes a better background listen due to its ambient nature, but if you're in the mood for something relaxing, it's great. The variations are extremely subtle, with a sound effect here and there every few bars while the overall feel is maintained. A decent, mellow tune. A couple of the samples are a bit distorted, which worked fine when they were in the background, but not so well when they were played louder. The use of sound effects to establish the mood is very good, with some great creaks/hisses/etc to suggest some kind of underwater journey. The balance is good, though it's easier to balance a piece with no melody!

I hope this piece was intended as a humourous interlude, because it certainly is nothing more than that. It has no melody, only one groove, and is barely over a minute long. Though it might make an amusing transition between two real tunes, it hardly stands on its own. Some techno bass, a keyboard sample, and a dopey voice saying "bitch". Brilliant. Why do I get stuck reviewing the songs like this?

The melody is forgettable and the song quite repetetive. There's nothing in this song to really grab your attention, let alone make you want to hear it twice. If this was meant as the beginning to another piece, it should have been stuck to the front of that piece instead of being uploaded as its own song. The samples are old. The guitar backgrounds end up sounding more like a jet engine roaring in the background, and the melody is far too quiet. Overall, this song could have sounded alright with good samples, but good samples are something it lacks.

Why is this song only one minute long? It sounds like it could have been a decent groove if it had been carried on for any significant amount of time; as it is, it just sounds unfinished. The small amount of material makes it nearly impossible to comment on the artist's musical ability. Well, the samples sound fine, and there are no major faults. Once again, the song is so short that it's difficult to really evaluate it. Oh yeah, there's also a sample of someone laughing at the end. Whoo.

The intro to this tune implies that a good rockin' is coming, and I really had my hopes up. Though the fusion of rock with a few techno-style sweeps and beeps was a good premise to build on, this tune suffered from too much repetition and lack of melody to really make it. Worst of all, the obligatory screaming guitar solo was missing. Quite disappointing. Though this seems to be a 12-channel mod, it sounds more like half that number. The guitar sample is good for the slower, more bassy parts of the melody, but didn't work at all for the higher parts. The percussion samples weren't all that inspiring, and the techno-ish sounds were mixed in too quietly behind the guitar. Overall, this mod could have been much better technically.

This song makes use of the same chord pattern for practically the whole 4 minutes, which gets annoying about halfway through. Most of the song is just arpeggios over the main chord pattern, which some texture changes every few bars. There's a point in the middle of the song where it sounds like a very pretty melody is about to come in, but then it doesn't. The hihats at the start of the sounded unique, but most of the samples in this song were fairly typical. The fullness achieved at 3:00 and 3:40 is great (but as much a product of arranging as technical ability?). Overall, no major faults but nothing that really sticks out positively either.

The bassline at the start of this song sounds a bit goofy at first, but then it grows on you a little. However, as soon as you've gotten used to it, you're hit by a wall of sound as the rest of the tracks come in (too loudly). The song itself is fairly repetetive and has some amateur-sounding sections. The string sample is bad, especially when playing on its own near the end of the song. This sounds like a 4-channel mod, even though it uses much more than that. On the whole, the song is somewhat amateurish technically. With some tweaking it could have been much better.

A nice slow/fast/slow song with European-style melodies and harmonies. Mostly standard stuff to begin with, but the guitar solo in the fast section is great stuff. Use of dynamics and variety between the different sections keeps the song interesting, and the melodies show some definite musical ability. Some of the samples are a little old, and the drum kit isn't as crisp as it could be. The guitar solo is extremely well-executed, but some other sections (especially using the piano) expose flaws in the samples. However, this song is quite tight for a 4-channel mod.

A standard techno-type tune of about 3 minutes. The harmonies are weak and dissonant at times, and there is a good deal of repetition in this song. There's no real main melody, making the song extremely forgettable and not really worth a second play. The "I am God" soundbite is cute the first time, but it repeats far too much through the course of the song. The rest of the samples are fairly non-descript. The string passage doesn't fit with the rest of the song, mostly because it sounds better than the rest of the song. This remix attempts to mix two different moods and the result isn't particularly pleasing. There are odd harmonies and a total lack of direction in this song. Rather unfortunate. Some of the added samples sound bad - even static-filled at points. In contrast with the smoothness of the strings, this sounds extremely amateur. This tune has a unique feeling to it that keeps your attention. The mood is half creepy and half "in awe", giving it a great sci-fi feeling. The tune builds steadily toward the end without being obvious. However, the song should have been much longer, and some kind of melody near the ending really could have topped it off. A couple of the samples sound a little dated, while the rest are fairly plain, but do the job. This song really could have benefitted from a greater sense of depth and immersion. This song is short and suffers from a lack of direction. Basically, it is made up of a collection of small sections, each of which has good melodies and decent feel, but overall seem thrown together. If some of the sections had been seperated by a chorus or had there been recurring themes, this could have been a good tune. One of the melody samples gets a little painful in the higher range. There is a noticeably out-of-tune piano at one point. Also, the lead sample at 0:30 sounds amateur. The analog-style samples have a good feel, however. A nice intro leads into an elongated solo over a funky backing track. The chord changes are unique and all contain a little bit of twist to keep you listening. Good musical skill is displayed all around. This is probably the least annoying chip song I've heard in quite some time. None of the samples are harsh and tinny, and if it wasn't for the arpeggio effect one might not realise they were listening to a chip tune at all. The whole song mixes well and shows Purple Motion's usual level of technical ability.

This song is probably meant to express the pain of insomnia, but what's really painful is the screaming sample that stays there through the whole song. What starts out sounding like an interesting ambient groove never really goes anywhere, and then, after about 2 minutes, it's done. Toss in the scream and a silly "shut the fuck up, chico-man" sample, and you have the entire song - no melodies, no anything. Just one little groove. There isn't much to say about the technical side of this extremely one-dimensional song. The scream sample is extremely obnoxious (perhaps that was intended). The whole song had finished before I could even figure out what to write about it. Odd. The samples are a little old, especially the percussion. The intro to this song makes it sound like some kind of chip tune on steroids... but after 15 seconds the real song starts and the author's talent becomes apparent. The chorus to this song is great and showcases fast, exciting drumbeats not usually found in 4-channel mods, along with a hyperactive bassline. There are two solo-like passages, one featuring a weirdly sliding wave instrument. That one leads into a modified (and even better) version of the chorus. The second solo is more jazz-like and a little odd, leading into the very strange end of this piece, which sounds like music from a horror movie. The tempo slows, but what seems like the last chord is not - they continue as the song fades out. Overall this song is extremely unique and a good listen. This tune doesn't allow you to notice that it's only made with 4 channels. Good selection of samples along with good decisions on placement of tracks make this song sound full the whole way through. The samples are of decent quality and the way the flying percussion beats are constructed is a testament to the author's ability. Overall Mr. Braumuller has done an excellent job with this tune.

This tune is a slow and boring transcription of the original. Most of the original song seems to be here (in a less inspiring form). The solo at 3:00 is fun for a few seconds, but then the dirge continues. Unfortunately, with the slow tempo and great length of this song, you may want to hear it once to see how good a rendition it is, but not more than that. "I - AM - IRONMAN!"... and the rest of the samples are all old. The exact same heavy guitar and lead guitar samples that seem to be in every metal .mod ever made are in this one as well. Had there been some more variety in the sections of the piece, it could have been good. I couldn't determine the author of this tune, by the way. There are a couple cute samples with this tune, but all the samples are old and of moderate quality at best. Though this is a standard .mod, that's no excuse for bad samples. Though there are good melodies within this song, there is nothing to latch on to because it jumps around so much. Overall this song seems like the spontaneous expression of a great deal of the mixing urge, and could have been better. The drumloops and drum samples are very good and mix together well. However, there are no truly catchy main melodies in this song, leaving it with a lack of energy. The song seems to float along aimlessly until the rather sudden ending. More could have been accomplished with this tune. The backgrounds in this song are well-balanced, with the soft bass sample and the percussion mixing well. However, there are some technical deficiencies that interfere with the song, the most glaring of which is an out-of-tune piano sample (though some other samples sound out of tune as well). The samples in this song are not of the best quality. This mod is basically an interesting, moody trance that builds up to a nice groove and then ends. The song is repetetive, but not long enough to build on this repetition as a theme. When creating mood music, it must be done all the way. Fading out just as the groove is established (like this song does) leaves the listener wondering what the point was. All the same, some nice chords and harmonies. The samples are good and the mix is well balanced. It was nice to hear a trance-type song with a soft bass drum and snare instead of the usual pounding garbage. Several attempts to be experimental seem to have failed in this tune. A beat-cut near the beginning does not work at all. Though the flavour is interesting around 1:00, the piano that comes in at 2:05 is completely unmelodic. The bass that follows harmonises very poorly and is grating to hear. This continues for a very long time, and is basically unforgivable. The song becomes totally unmelodic again around 5:00. An obvious lack of musical sense has afflicted this piece, which, by the way, is also far too long. Some decent samples with some interesting experiments in a drumloop in the first half, but also some bad cuts. There are several unprofessional moments, like volume-skips around 2:50, and a snare-roll that is utter crap at 3:00. Nothing of note happens for the rest of the piece.
