Today we're live with a lot of behind the scenes updates, but also a few tweaks here and there - namely at the moment we are experimenting with:

- a new API path
- Unzipped Modules (!) This is in a testing phase, we may be turning this on and off while testing a few things on the public.
- a lot of visual tweaks
- UTF-8 support, hurrah for Unicode
- PNG support added to profile picture upload
- Download list of all of your favourites (allows you to wget them, basically), Go to your favourites list and scroll to the bottom.
- Screening crew can now rename files in the upload queue.
- There's quite a lot I can't tell you about, too, but tadaa!

If you spot any problems, please report them along with a few steps on how you got the problem to manifest.

Cheers!

(Ha! I have a beer fund, if you want to drop a coin. beer at modarchive.org) :-)

P.S There is this news item from 1997:

A new year, a new Mod Archive! You asked for changes and we listened. The biggest changes are:

- All mods are now zipped!
- The interface is now much cleaner (If you have Internet Explorer 3.0 or Netscape 3.0).
- The Mod Archive now runs across multiple servers! www.modarchive.com now stores all html files, logs and data files. This server is a Dell Pentium 166 with a SCSI RAID disk array running BSDI and is on its own T1 line! www.watson.org (the old server) stores all of the zipped mods and handles uploads. This server is a Gateway P133 with many, many disk drives and 96 megs of Ram. It runs FreeBSD and is on a T3 line that it shares with thousands of other computers. www.modarchive.com is instantly updated whenever an upload is made to www.watson.org.

Gosh we are old.

In a week or so the site will have some maintenance downtime, not for very long (we're planning on 10 minutes). During this time the site will undergo a UTF transformation, meaning our Scandinavian and German (and whoever else uses Umlauts) can bask in their glory.

Additionally, a quiet renovation is being done and should be ready in time for the switch over.

Additionally additionally, some of our staff will be attending this weekend's Revision Demoparty in Germany. Alpha C, m0d & Saga Musix will be there, so if you happen to be near (you can spot m0d a mile off, its the t-shirt) come and say hello!

Website News Archive / Updated: TMA Recovery

The server is now fully operational again. The last outage was the insertion of the (finally good) new disk.

- m0d.

This has been a terrible week for TMA, unfortunately it looks like the hosting company may have replaced our broken disks with more broken or worn out disks, so right now the site is under performing as a result of this.

Hopefully we will not go down again, but it's hard to tell how long this will continue to work until they have resolved the issue (this time without making me rebuild the entire sodding server from scratch). Grrrrrr,

Update: The server is now running on at least one fully working disk, there will be further downtime next week while the new "new" replacement disks are installed. Then hopefully that will be the end of the disruption.

On 29th March 2014 the worst case data loss scenario occurred, our RAID system had both disks fail at exactly the same time which meant the entire site and other services hosted on it were (and still are) affected. Due to diligently made backups, we suffered no major loss of data. The most inconvenience has been having to rebuild server configuration from scratch as some of it was well out of the scope of the backup.

We are missing about 60 modules which were uploaded between 27th and 29th March 2014, so if you noticed yours have gone missing from the processing queue, please re-upload them.

Unfortunately the site isn't fully operational yet as some systems are still being tested to make sure they behave normally. You may notice some features have a popup which mentions the area is in lockdown. This is normal.

Meanwhile, in parallel to rebuilding the server from scratch, the original broken disks have been shipped to an associate to try and see if it is possible to get some of the data for other services retrieved.

If you spot an anomaly on the site, please report it on the forum, we will have a look at it.

There hasn't been much to report on lately, which is why this page has seemed a little more than stale of late - if you have some news related to the tracking scene, or relevant parts of the demoscene please do drop us a note! Head over to out Forums and post your news. We'll check it out and probably feature it.
