MilkyTracker Tracks & Songs / Re: Cant find instrument download
« on: June 10, 2008, 09:52:11 »
It wasn't deleted, our hawk-eyed administrator m0d just moved it to its appropriate place. Usually a trace has been left where an OT message was originally posted but it seems not this time so it's understandable it seemed to have vanished. Anyway, continue this here if necessary and check your PMs. :)

You got some answers on IRC already but let's post something here so this isn't left hanging:

1. The tremolo command has effect memory so you only need to enter the paramteres once and after that, a simple 700 will repeat the effect.

2. We call the "chunks" patterns. The "other" one changes because it's the same one. Up the pattern number to 01 and you'll get a new one. You can use the 00 pattern as a basis for 01 if you just copy everything over. A super fast way of achieving this is clicking the Cln button which is short for Clone. It inserts the next unused pattern in the order table and copies over the data from the current pattern.

Cheer up, it's still very simple nowadays: You make chiptunes, you either put them under a license or not and lamers will happily come, rip your tunes and sell them. Licenses or copyright don't bother them.

The old sample pack wasn't specifically under any license. It was just a random collection, probably ripped from wherever a long time ago, before anybody in the  scene was interested in or cared about licenses.

MilkyTracker News / Port round-up
« on: June 05, 2008, 00:15:26 »
Since the release of MilkyTracker v0.90.80 as open source, new software distributions have been adopting it at a steady pace. The long-awaited Ubuntu package is also out already, and has been for a while too! Yeah, we didn't know either for quite some time, due to a delay on the package search page we were monitoring. Other distributions that nowadays offer MilkyTracker include (but aren't necessarily limited to) Arch Linux, Debian, Enlisy, FreeBSD, Gentoo, NetBSD and SUSE. Let us know if there's more.

Varthall's port for Amiga OS 4 was done in due time and we're awaiting to hear about more positive developments from the Amiga front. Also, by request, a G3 compatible OS X version was built. "I found a new use for my old white iBook: tracking! It's now called MilkyBook. :)", commented satisfied user azer4.

We would like to remind people that if they're doing something interesting with the source code, please let us know so we can spread the news. That's about it, nothing big, but at least I got to clean up the news page a little. ;)

1. Open the sample editor context menu (right-click, Cmd-click, tap'n'hold or whatever) and select Generators > Sine.
You can still get it imperfect with the wrong sample length and number of periods though, so here are the settings for a pretty nice sine: Sample length: 128 bytes (80 in hexadecimal) and number of periods: 1.0. Doubling sample length increases accuracy but lowers the relative note of the sample so if you go overboard, you will only be able to play REALLY low frequencies with your sine wave.

2. Yes, by using the 3xx or Mx command. Remember, when you use these portamento commands with notes, they don't trig the sample, so first play a note WITHOUT the command and use it for the following notes.

3. What do you mean? You can load or generate whatever length sample (from the context menu > New).

4. If you're still talking about samples, then no. There isn't a time stretch function in the tracker (at least not at the moment).

For an indie game, I'd pick credit over payment any time.
