MilkyTracker News / v0.90.85 for OS X 10.4 Tiger
« on: January 22, 2010, 17:18:09 »
Thanks to our friend maep, your old Tiger can now also run the new MilkyTracker. Check out the downloads. The site and documentation also got a couple of fixes and Valerio tells us the quick reference printouts will soon be up to date. So if you're planning to print out and laminate and/or frame some PDFs, you might want to wait over the weekend.

Sampling / Re: Adding distortion to samples
« on: January 17, 2010, 21:23:14 »
My question here is as follows: is there an even easier way to do all this? Perhaps some sort of effect I missed? And would it be a big problem to combine to two channels into one, that is to say combine the two instruments into one so I get the same sound? The notes in both channels are the exact same anyway so I don't need to have them separately.

If you like the sound you're getting with this method, you can easily combine the two samples by selecting sample 1 (Rng all), copying it, selecting sample 2 (again Rng all) and right-clicking it and selecting Mix-Paste.

MilkyTracker Feature Requests / Re: Drum mode
« on: January 14, 2010, 00:28:43 »
Saga's right, each instrument can hold 16 samples which can be mapped to different notes. They can be different pitch samples of a melodic instrument to give it more natural sound or they can indeed be a drumkit. Or anything, naturally.

The macro key bindings in the FT2 edit mode sort of go in the way you propose with the "drum mode" but it's not exactly the same thing. Your idea isn't bad but I think it would require a lot of support from the community to get it implemented. I know joule, for one, is a big fan of automating things. :)

That sounds like a stellar resolution to display MilkyTracker. And while that comment may seem highly subjective, I think your CPU would agree. The GUI is rendered in software so your graphics card won't really help there. Your options probably are stepping down the window size or full screen resolution as you say but you could also try on alternative scrolling styles in Config > Misc. "Scroll to end" with your current window size, for example, would eliminate the need to scroll entirely with the majority of modules.

PS. Also make sure your sound driver and buffer settings aren't the cause of display sluggishness, using DirectSound with high buffer values will do that.

MilkyTracker Community / Re: Is there a list of effects anywhere?

I should maybe have added another smiley. It wasn't an all-serious roll-eyes. :)

But ok, my bad. Obviously it is not the case but there really SHOULD be very little difference between the online and bundled manuals. Somebody with more control over the matter must have disagreed.
