MilkyTracker Support / Re: Looping samples seamlessly
« on: January 23, 2009, 09:00:18 »
Nil is a good place to start but making a good or perfect loop takes a lot of practice, and still it doesn't work every time. The cross-fade filter is your friend but it doesn't do all the work for you. First you try to look for similar wave characteristics and place the loop points on the "same" spot on the wave form. The loop may still sound wrong even if there's no pop, so you might need to move the other loop point back or forward one or more "cycles" of the wave form. You may get lucky by doing this only, it works with simple samples. But if there's something like a reverb kicking in during the sample, the cross-fader can help even the loop out.

I took a quick stab at looping your sample and it came out pretty good, although the sound "color" did change a little. That means the cross-fading introduced some wave cancellation which could probably have been avoided by moving the other loop point a cycle back or forward before selecting a region encompassing it and applying the cross-fade. <- That monster of a sentence is also supposed to give you a hint on how to use the cross-fade function (which can be found in the Advanced sub menu of the sample editor context menu).

Just to make it clear, you have to have created the samples yourself to be able to upload to Freesound and make them available under a Creative Commons license.

I recommend getting LameDropXPd from http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lamedrop.php

You just drag and drop mp3 files on it and it gives you wavs.

MilkyTracker Support / Re: MilkyTracker website down?

Indeed, the site is back up. In case you were wondering, the downtime was due to very unlucky timing of a hardware failure and the administrator being busy with moving. Thanks to m0d for really going the extra mile with the file mirror.

I meant that I know the song and can confirm its title and that it is valid Finnish.

The spelling is correct ("Birch Bark Horn Techno"), it is not a module (at least not in the sense unreal21.s3m is, post-production is audible) and I did track it down once for some people who were looking for it on PM's forum. But I seem to have since lost the mp3 and the correspondence about it. :/ Maybe I have to go looking again..

The Internet seems to be broken on a larger scale.

Tracking / Re: How often do you track?
« on: January 15, 2009, 18:11:21 »
Playing unfinished tracks and not doing a damn thing about them sounds very familiar, unfortunately. Over the last decade my prj/ directory has been steadily growing and for every finished module, I have at least two unfinished ones waiting in prj/. But I try not to let it bother me that much as megabytes are cheap and every once in a while I DO finish a module in there. It's just too easy to write down an idea and then leave it to gather dust. How often do I track? Maybe one or two creative bursts each month when I manage to either finish a track or make progress on several.

What you're trying to do isn't possible. Your options are either mixing the sounds on sample level or doubling your tracked channels and changing the instrument numbers for the copy (or if you've split the keyboard for multiple samples in the instrument editor, just transpose the notes to hit the correct samples).
