The Lobby / Re: Using old game music in own production
« on: February 26, 2009, 13:38:18 »
Legally speaking, it would be a breach of copyright. But with many of the old games, often the company that owns the rights is long disbanded.

It is illegal, but generally isn't a huge problem for small projects - if they copyright holder is still around, will they even know their tune is being used? Many small game makers and music producers fly so far under the radar that nobody ever notices.

I sampled a Konami game on my album, I've had modest downloads, and not a single cease and desist.

NitroTracker Community / Re: Hardware MIDI: DSerial is back!

Hmmm....

...This makes NitroTracker seem a lot more usable for live work (DS MIDI WiFI always glitches out on me)

...But can I afford $79 at the moment?

Is problem #1 because the channels are set to a volume of 00 at the end of the last pattern?

As for #2, I dunno!

MilkyTracker Support / Re: Sampler editor

I'm also a bit confused about the sample length issue - how does Milky deal with notes? Will it force the sample into the right frequency, or will it just resize it in ratio, and assume that the sample is a C?

The Lobby / Howdy Trackers!
« on: February 18, 2009, 13:12:55 »
Hey guys, new boy here! Only just getting into tracking really, but a long time electronic music experimenter... Mostly I've used Reason and Cubase over the years, but I'm making the move to use Linux full time, and I've been trying to learn my way around MilkyTracker. I've toyed with trackers before, but never actually made anything complete out of them.

To see my style, you can download my synth-punk/nerd-rap album from http://www.categorymusic.co.uk

Hope to talk to y'all more over the next few days/weeks/months/...!
