MilkyTracker Tracks & Songs / Parallax Glacier
« on: October 15, 2008, 17:55:38 »
The demo of sverx's Nintendo DS XM replay library is finally out and so is my demo song. If you want to get a feel of how it sounds on the NDS, set your player mixing rate to 32kHz and choose no interpolation and no ramping. Or you can just get the ROM for your NDS or emulator here: http://forum.gbadev.org/viewtopic.php?t=16137

EDIT: The module is now archived here: http://modarchive.org/module.php?163194

And there's an emulator video capture on YouTube: http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=9e8uyL4Qngo

Ripper / Plagiarism Reports / [unconfirmed] The X Factor
« on: August 29, 2008, 17:12:17 »
The X Factor (the_x_factor.s3m) by The X Factor ;) rips off
Beyond Music (beyond_music.mod) by captain.

I've held on to this file for years lest we forget. The X Factor is heavily plagiarised from captain for the most part. In the end there's another part which could be original or ripped from somewhere else.

MilkyTracker Community / Document restoration
« on: August 27, 2008, 01:14:48 »
If you've been reading Vhiiula's Techniques of Chipping on the website, you might have been confused about some of the ASCII diagrams that didn't seem to match the descriptions. The reason is that over the document's existence, it has been copied around and somewhere along the way some of the backslash characters were wiped out. I've now restored them from the original source based on this bit of info found elsewhere on the forums:

I made a Blue Öyster Cult cover for Jayenkai's Cowbell Hero game. You could get the module from the game's data folder but it will sound wrong on accurate module players and *GASP* the cowbell would be missing. So, here's the standalone version of the song.

EDIT: Archived.

MilkyTracker Tracks & Songs / Downloading songs (Attention guests!)
« on: August 13, 2008, 23:14:17 »
Hello guests!

People often post their MilkyTracker songs in this section of the forums but the file attachments in posts are invisible to guest users. So if you're interested in checking out what people's first steps in tracking sound like and more, it's recommended that you register in order to get to the downloads. This is stuff that won't necessarily get added to Ye Archive but it (and the feedback) may provide insight, especially to learners.

Bug Reports / [fixed] Post preview background on Tracker subforums
« on: August 07, 2008, 12:06:29 »
For some reason (different template?) when you preview a post on any one of the Tracker sub forums, the background color of the preview box is a moderately dark grey tone. While the text is still readable, it's less pleasant for the eyes. Frankly, it's quite ugly. ;)

MilkyTracker News / Port round-up
« on: June 05, 2008, 00:15:26 »
Since the release of MilkyTracker v0.90.80 as open source, new software distributions have been adopting it at a steady pace. The long-awaited Ubuntu package is also out already, and has been for a while too! Yeah, we didn't know either for quite some time, due to a delay on the package search page we were monitoring. Other distributions that nowadays offer MilkyTracker include (but aren't necessarily limited to) Arch Linux, Debian, Enlisy, FreeBSD, Gentoo, NetBSD and SUSE. Let us know if there's more.

Varthall's port for Amiga OS 4 was done in due time and we're awaiting to hear about more positive developments from the Amiga front. Also, by request, a G3 compatible OS X version was built. "I found a new use for my old white iBook: tracking! It's now called MilkyBook. :)", commented satisfied user azer4.

We would like to remind people that if they're doing something interesting with the source code, please let us know so we can spread the news. That's about it, nothing big, but at least I got to clean up the news page a little. ;)

PC Players / XMPlay Support site
« on: May 22, 2008, 18:27:24 »
XMPlay has a fairly comprehensive support website run by Rah'Dick which lists pretty much every skin, visualization and plugin that works with XMPlay. There's also articles and tutorials and what have you. Recommended for a full XMPlay experience.

Ah, the URL: http://support.xmplay.com/

As some of you may have noticed the announcement on the documentation page, we are looking to start a MilkyTracker user manual in wiki form. If you're experienced with wikis, I would like to hear suggestions (with reasoning) for a suitable platform because there seems to be a ton of options.

What we'd like it to be like is:
  • W3C compliant like the rest of the site
  • able to embed media
  • preferably easily customizable so that it would  blend in with the site nicely
  • simple
  • light
  • fast
  • strawberry scented

and also, it should run on PHP/MySQL. So, if you do know a good wiki platform that matches most of this description, let's hear about it. (I'm currently looking at WikkaWiki but haven't decided yet.)
