two authors claim that they made This song.... at least there are two links on the page. in the module text, only  one of them is mentioned.

Tracking / Creating chiptunes with modern trackers

IMHO: Thebetter the sample quality, the better the sound. So it doesn't matter if you use 32 bits or 4 bits (but i would prefer the higher ones^^), but you have to use typical chip samples, like square, triangle, and so on... you also have to do slides and vibratos and arpeggios in your patterns to archive a nice chip sound.
this is all i know about chip tunes. maybe someone else can tell you more about this.

Tracking / Split: Tracker superiority discussion
« on: December 05, 2006, 21:29:22 »
Indeed, it is just a question of time and of course of the auther who wants to compose in modplug. My first tracks sounded crappy for sure, but now, if i may say so myself, they have a nice sound, not only because i have a synthesizer from which i can record smaples but also because i look how others do well in modplug. or any other tracker. taht doesn't care.

I found the sentenced i looked for in the ST3 documentation:

The Protracker effects left out, thus, are Set filter and Funkrepeat.
Most songs play fine without them, though.

Ah, and if i remember correctly, it is mentioned in the ST3 documentation. in modplug, it has an entirely new function and i didn't read about it in other trackers as well (but i remember that i read some other inforamtion about this effect some time ago...where?)
