These two seems to be the same:
https://modarchive.org/index.php?request=view_by_moduleid&query=122862
https://modarchive.org/index.php?request=view_by_moduleid&query=153942

The first one is weirdly panned, correct me if I'm wrong but I have read somewhere that people did this due to technical limitations on the Amiga. And the second would have been corrected?
However the instrument text says "zalza1998chiplover" for the first one and the other has "zalza 96" as the author, so the first one is actually anterior? ???

By the way, given a xm file panned this way, how can I make it mono? Using Milkytracker I tried looking for the effect 8 and for panning settings in the instrument view but I didn't find anything.

People did not "do this" (intentionally). It is simply not technically possible to do otherwise in the Amiga MOD format...

...and on the other hand, the XM format does not have channel panning but only sample panning, hence everything is just panned to center by default unless you set a different default sample panning for each sample.

I will probably just ask Zalza which file is the original one.

If you mean MOD file rather than XM, you probably can't as long as Milky plays it in Amiga ProTracker mode.

Oh alright, thanks for the info.

Do you mean sample panning or instrument panning?

Oh yeah sorry, that happens for MOD files only indeed. I was able to find the option and listening to them is much more enjoyable now!

I refer to it as sample panning because it's a per-sample setting in XM. In IT you have both sample panning (a property of the sample) and instrument panning (a property of the entire instrument).

Oh right, I was confused about this because in MilkyTracker (and from the screenshots I've seen FastTracker 2) you change the per-sample setting in the instrument panel, the sample you set this to is the one which is selected.

Thanks, all merged into what is most likely the original file.
