i... i think i'm late for the party...
« on: October 24, 2007, 23:16:00 »

About 12 years late... or something.

tracking is basically dead? (i put a questionmark, for hope)

Look at these dead forums, the only rescources i have are from things dating 1997 and prior. Its so sad to see this community practically lifeless, as being a new user, i'm very excited to start on it. All i've been going through are old text files on tricks for tracking.

Is there any other forums, or chats or anywhere which is related to tracking, thats still active?

Ps. Milkytrackers is awesome.

Dead forums you say?

People are still tracking. There are still fresh uploads to the site from quite a few artists, and there are still tracking compos... haven't you been reading the news Issues? hehe :) Tracking is also still being featured in Computer Music magazine, an off-the-shelf mag in the UK.

Although oldskool tracking as you know it is now a lot less popular, it is still there, if you want to talk tracking, you are welcome to join #modarchive on irc.esper.net, or #milkytracker or even #renoise if you want to talk specifics.

The 'golden age of tracking' in the 90's may be well over, so to speak. However, with the power of the internet, the community of trackers is larger now than ever and there are new additions to the scene popping up every day, both in new artists and in new creative works.

The tracker scene is far from dead and buried, instead it is well-established and here to stay.

Therefor, a new golden age of tracking began later ;D we're not dead, definately (at least i don't feel dead), and there are still enough trackers doing their business :)

Haha, which is why I placed a question mark after dead.

I wasn't really certain where most of the "community" was, I'm real new to all this, and after hunting around quite a bit, this was the only place with documentation which wasn't archived.
After learning more about the demoscene, i went to scene.org and noticed that it was basically dead.
as long as there is an irc channel with people in it, then i'll be happy :)

also what does everyone track with? i've been using milkytracker, and i like it alot. i'll post some tracks in a couple of weeks.

I only discovered trackers in the last few years, so don't feel bad.  They are the most efficient way of writing music on a computer (I think).  I really don't know much about the whole demoscene thing, but the tracking community seems pretty active to me.

What do I track with?  Mostly Open MPT (Modplug), but I also use MilkyTracker on occasion, since it works well on many different platforms and has a nice, compact GUI.  (Finally, something that works right on old Win98 machines.)  I also have used Psycle, and even Buzz.
