"Words"
Released February 16th, 2003.
Music and lyrics by Vince "Novus" Young
Copyright 2003. All rights reserved.

Once again, it's been WAY too friggin' long since my last release. More on
that below. But first... the lyrics.

====================

VERSE ONE

  Communication
   Has never been
My strongest suit when it comes to the heart

  My education
   Regarding love
Must be missing every vital part

And now I'm finding out how much I have to learn.

REFRAIN

But every time I find the words
   Everything changes
And I have to start back at page one.

And every time I close my eyes
   I see the words
That I should've said to you before I said goodbye.

VERSE TWO

  Exoneration
   Is out of reach
As is now the beauty of your face

  My reparation
   Is so delayed
But better late than never in this case

For now I'm learning just how much I had to lose.

REFRAIN

'Cause every time I find the words
   Everything changes
And I have to start back at page one.

And every time I close my eyes
   I see the words
That I should've said to you before you said goodbye.

====================

It's been almost a year since I finished my cover of CCB's "Wir Happy
Hippos," and well over two years since my last original piece, "Beacon."
So much has changed since then. Heck, so much has changed since I first
started working on "Words" over a year ago.

"Words" started out in early 2001 as a song about almost losing a girl,
and eventually became a song about actually losing that girl in early
2002. That's not even the biggest change in my life since "Beacon," but
it's a good example of what my life's been like recently.

When will my next song be released, you might ask? I don't know. I've made
promises before about "This marks my return to the scene," but when you're
working two jobs and over 65 hours per week, promises like that become
worthless. But over time, I've become more and more aware of time slipping
away from me, and I'd hate to dust off an old backup CD in the year 2057
and wonder why I never finished any of the works-in-progress contained
therein.

The good news is that I never stop writing music. My recent experiences
have been ripe for all sorts of song lyrics, and it's getting easier and
easier for me to match music from my head with words on my paper, and to
do so with relative speed. I have enough songs to keep me busy on Impulse
Tracker for years to come. The problem is finding the time to track them
out.

I have a God-given talent, a gift for writing music and for tracking, and
I don't think I'm bragging when I say that I am, if not spectacular, at
least above average. Enough of you folks out there have given me much
higher compliments. And while all of my other dreams have have been taken
away from me, one by one, in the past few years, this is the one dream
that cannot be taken away: I can track out music that touches people in
some positive way. I figure as long as one dream is still within my grasp,
I'd better reach for it now.

But what the heck... I'm taking myself way too seriously here, and if the
song lyrics didn't depress you, this probably did. So forget all this.
Crank the volume. Deafen your neighbor's children and small pets with the
bass. Move to the beat.

And don't forget to live.

God bless you, even if you don't believe there's a God who can bless
you...
