MilkyTracker Support / Re: casio cassiopeia EM500
« on: June 10, 2011, 20:10:28 »

I have copied the content of the milky download to the palm pc (my device/windows/program files) and when i click on the MIPS version i get the error message:

"cannot find 'Milky Tracker' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and file name are correct and all the required libraries are available."

I am running windows CE version 3.0.9348.

I have tried to get updates by connecting to my lap top and allowing the laptop windows updater to go on line and check/install. This has made no difference.

I have window media player for pocket pc version 4.1 - i purchased the palm pc second hand and as such have no install disks, but do have the serial numbers. i don't seem to be able to update windows media player without completely upgrading my version of CE - but cant find where i can get a non evaluation copy?

MilkyTracker Support / casio cassiopeia EM500

Having been impressed by the photo in the screenshots section of the milky website which shows a cassiopeia EM500 running milky, i have purchased one. However i am having touble installing. I have copied to the cassiopeia (to windows/program files - not sure if this is correct) then when i click on milky it tells me one of the components is missing and fails to run. Please can some one tell me how to install milky on this device. also advice on how best to configure the buttons would be good.

I hope there is some other users who have this device who can help.

pan issue resolved , it was my soundcard mixer doh! I have audio in 1 an 2 which appear on my soundcard mixer with a pan knob and both were panned centrally so could not hear the panning from nitro. Also had a response from tob regarding the rel and tune issues:
OK, this is a bit unintuitive: In the XM format, samples are all saved
with the same base frequency which is 8363 Hz. You cannot have samples
at other frequencies, which sucks, but that's how they designed XM.  So,
all frequency adjustments are done via the "relative note" and
"finetune" settings. Now if you load a sample at some arbitrary sampling
frequency intro NitroTracker, it calculates the relative note and
finetune settings such that it is played back at the original frequency
even though internally it gets stored at 8386 Hz. This is confusing.

I am using 16bit 44.1khz mono audio and want to know the maximum size sample i can load in one go, both in seconds and in KB. I also want to know the maximum song size in KB. Also whats the total available memory in KB available for loading samples.

You have about 3MB RAM available in NitroTracker. Pattern data doesn't use much of that (It's 7*n_channels*n_rows bytes per pattern). RAM is the limit for sample/song size, so the maximum sample length given 44100khz 16bit mono would be:

3*1024*1024 / (44100 * 2) = 35 seconds. But 44100khz samples are sort of a waste because the DS has an output sampling rate of only 31000 khz or so (don't remember the exact value).

BENTENDO SAYS: I also use cooledit and due to the above DS output limit I opt for:

sample rate : 32000
bit depth: 16

This gives the best quality, obviously if you are trying to save space or go for a crunchy feel you can go lower.

NitroTracker Bug Reports / sample properties bugs: pan, rel, tune
« on: August 08, 2008, 12:27:54 »
I am running V0.4 from supercard lite with transflash micro SD, having got barni's DLDI.

Pan - initial value 64, does not work, can scroll to values of 0 and 127 but has no effect on audio output. Ihave tried loading mono and stereo files but it has no effect.

rel - initital value c-4 when sample bank empty, but when sample is loaded it jumps to a random value (different each time?). It should remain at default of c-4 after loading sample. Also upon scolling through the possible values i have noticed that going upward after a#4 it goes to h-4, this should read b-4.

tune - initial value 0 when sample bank empty, but when sample is loaded it jumps to a random value (different each time?). It should remain at default 0 after loading sample.

NitroTracker Community / BPM issues
« on: August 07, 2008, 22:31:49 »
with version 0.3 i struggled to get a drum loop to work in nitro. I had a loop that was at 140bpm generated by FL studio and checked the bpm in recycle, confirming it was 140bpm.   In version 0.3 i could not get the loop to loop tightly, I tried various permutations of different values in the 2 boxes. So when version 0.4 came out I ran the same 140 bpm test. I ran an 8 bar loop, pattern length 80 and found the closest i could get was 5,114 - but it was still not quite right. I then used the pitch adjust in the sample editor and increased the pitch by one to 30. This gives as good a loop. The sample can then be cut down to 1 or 2 bars to reduce RAM usage and re-triggered more frequently. This is the best way i have found of getting a really tight BPM match......anyone else found any good tempo matches??
