Sampling / Some of the samples I used
« on: January 04, 2019, 08:21:54 »
Basically, just some samples I created with VSTs emulating the respective synths. I used some of them in my song "my toyota paseo."

Yeah, it's always good to hear.
Now I have a monstrous list of pending modules.

I timed it, around 45 seconds.
I don't know, I'll try to upload it, and in case if it doesn't work, I'll just leave this here to see if it'll work for one of you guys:

EDIT: It worked this time, although I'm uploading it again due to the fact that I forgot that some songs had characters that didn't work with TMA4's naming convention.

Essentially, I am trying to upload a 20MB zip file containing 146 .669 modules that I didn't find on the archive, yet when I upload it, it freezes and then goes back to "No file selected."

I'm not even done with the ZIP uploads yet since these are only Composer 669 modules (didn't get into the UNIS 669 stuff,) yet it doesn't seem to work.

RAR just gives "abandoned because filename doesn't match naming convention" even after naming it "naming_-_convention."

Help Support Topics Archive / Hide/modify module instrument text?
« on: January 02, 2019, 17:38:23 »
Essentially, I recently wanted to do a collab with Yomaru Kasuga, however, when he sent his part, he sent a very long (8-minute) chiptune which I thought was wonderful enough to post on it's own, not on my account of course.

However, I actually didn't realize that Yomaru put me in the credits! So, if someone can atleast hide the instrument text or perhaps modify it (but I think that's too much of a hassle,) I'd be grateful.

Wow, thanks Saga!  :)

Let's say that if you use the .669 filter and then select "Browse by filename," instead of not showing anything, it shows you all 669 modules by filename? Or for genres? Rating? Etc.?

Or is this too hard to implement?

The Lobby / Is remixing plagarism?
« on: December 01, 2018, 10:29:05 »
So recently I made a swing sort of jazzy remix of this song: https://modarchive.org/index.php?request=view_by_moduleid&query=165744
However, I got called out on it by Yomaru Kasuga, since it's plagarism, he says.

Now is that actually true? Because I thought remixing was essentially remaking something in your own way.
Please tell me that this doesn't have anything to do with Article 13. I live in Europe.

Although, now that I think of it, Yomaru Kasuga himself does mostly MIDI conversions and slaps samples from "BRANDS" to hide that, so it's kind of ironic...

Also, I know this is different, but is taking the melody from another module and reversing it also plagarism or is it like creative sampling?

The Lobby / Re: What exactly is "sufficient quality?"
« on: November 22, 2018, 20:55:36 »
Wait, then why was my module "jts-stage3" (yes I do understand why this one was rejected) or "kinnikinnick0718_-_journey_to_silius" accepted? It's a recreation of Stage 3 from the NES/Famicom game Journey to Silius/Raf World.
Yeah, they are very impressive. But then there's modules like this which are straight up SPC to IT conversions: https://modarchive.org/index.php?request=view_by_moduleid&query=35431
I assume whoever screened this didn't know what Earthbound was, what dumping means, what SPC means, and thought someone actually had the guts to compose a song at a BPM OF 250 AT 1 TICK PER ROW.

I gotta calm down.

kinnikinnick0718_-_journey_to_silius.mod was approved because unlike your other modules, it doesn't sound completely out of key and it actually has substance. Please stop comparing your modules to those uploaded ages ago. I was only 3 when battle09.it was uploaded, i wouldn't even become a screener until 17 years later. I have absolutely no idea why that module is in the archive, and i don't think it was approved by any of the current screeners either, so why are you blaming us for it?
I'm sorry if that came off as rude. I wasn't necessarily blaming you in particular, and as Saga Musix pointed out, there was no guideline on conversions, so there really isn't someone to blame after all.
I'm mostly just confused, the only one to blame is me for not looking at the date it was posted.
But I still have this question:
Quote
But i do know that in some cases, really crap modules are allowed on TMA - for instance if it's a really old module, or if it's part of a collection of one musicians modules that gets uploaded. In those cases they get added to the archive, for, well, the purpose of archiving them.
Then why do old modules that are bad and get submitted to be archived sometimes get rejected?
