Demoparties, Events & Compos / Revision 2011
« on: January 09, 2011, 12:52:28 »
Revision is more or less the follow-up event to the Breakpoint party. Located in Saarbrücken in Germany, this will hopefully be an easter party as big as Breakpoint! :)

Sure, there's a load of non-commercial Aryx remixes. But this seem to be a commercial track. does anyone know more about it?

Tracking / Perfect computer keyboards for tracking
« on: August 13, 2010, 13:09:54 »
Most people here who're into tracking might be confronted with a common problem called ghosting. That means if you press several keys at the same time, only two or three of them are actually detected, so you can't play complicated chords on your computer keyboard. Sadly, most keyboards these days have this problem due to the cheap circuitry used - this issue was less common back then when trackers were still cool. :P
However, there are still a few keyboards with anti-ghosting technology being sold, and I recently decided to go for one as I wasn't really able to play complicated chords in OpenMPT.

I decided to go for a M$ Sidewinder X4, which currently seems to be the only keyboard which costs less than 50€ (the next more expensive ones cost more than 100€, I think) and has full anti-ghosting (there seem to be a few with 5-key rollover for about 30€, though). Naturally, most anti-ghosting keyboards these days are designed with gamers in mind, not trackers, so most of them also have 365887326 extra keys which noone needs. The X4 has surprisingly few of them, only the typical media buttons, a calculator button and six macro keys (thought about using them for tracking and coding, but I don't know what to use them for yet ;D). The key labels are backlit, which is a very nice thing (the lights can also be turned off, of course), and the keyboard has a wrist rest which cannot be removed. It has a standard layout, which is very important for me (no keys reordered) and the keys have a good "grip". It was a very good decision to make the macro keys more flat than the other keys, so it's really not possible to confuse them with the Ctrl/Shift/Caps/Tab buttons. All in all, I can say that this was a real bargain for being a really good tracking keyboard.

So, are any of you using keyboards with anti-ghosting, and which? Do you use any other fancy features useful for tracking?

Feedback & Suggestions / [Fixed] URL tags don't allow ftp links
« on: August 03, 2010, 16:39:29 »
It seems that [url] tags on the main site (artist profiles etc) don't allow ftp://... links. Instead of checking for http://, I'd just check for ([a-z]*):// (or whatever).

MilkyTracker Bug Reports / Empty patterns in XM Files
« on: June 12, 2010, 15:05:13 »
While doing some research, I found this "bug" in the XM loader / saver in MilkyTracker, which should be fixed in order to conform to FT2's oddities:

- Completely empty patterns in XM files are always loaded as 64-row patterns in FT2, regardless of their size. To keep compatibility with previous versions of Milky, MPT and other trackers, I would recommend not adjust the the Milky loader code. But...
- A "break to row 0" command should be inserted in the last row of each empty pattern which is longer or shorter than 64 rows when saving XM files.

So here we are, it's 2010, and another edition of world's biggest pure demoscene event is going to happen again during the easter weekend (April 2nd to 5th) at Breakpoint.

The thing that's going to be different this year is not a little thing: This will be the last Breakpoint ever. For those of you who said "I will go there one day" or "maybe I'll attend", this is the last f***ing chance to experience the unique demoparty feeling at Breakpoint! Be there or be never there again! Get your asses over to Germany, come there and enjoy the best 4 days of your life. :)
I will certainly be there!

The Lobby / Are you bored and need a good laugh?
« on: January 31, 2010, 17:52:34 »
Well, try my new Random Trance Artist Name + Song Title Generator - Over the weekend, people have added well more than 1000 name components already and the database is still growing! It's shocking how close the names are to "real" trance artist and song names sometimes, but many of them are also just extremely funny. Try it out! =)
