in fact, i would like to have this effect - it sounds much cooler than just adding offset effects :hrrhrr:

quite a few people have used the effect, here's a few examples off the top of my head:

me (urea geller, urethra franklin)
groo (pilkku, kukko)
andy (stingless pen)

xmplay and the winamp oldsk00l plugin emulate EFx quite ok.

Afaik XMPlay doesn't support the funk repeat command (feel free to correct me when I'm wrong) but it has got way better support for oldschool mods than modplug tracker, that's for sure.

i didn't even say that modplug has good support for oldschool formats ;D but supports even more formats than XMPlay, that's for sure.
And i think XmPlay reserved EFx for syncs, but it could also be E2x, i'm not completely sure...

Indeed modplug supports quite some formats but I wouldn't recommend it for playing them cause the support for most of them is rather poor. There are better players/converters for some of the obscure formats out there.
Btw. E2x is fine portamento down.

oh, okay, i never felt comfortable with XM Format, i thought that the Exx effects are the same like Sxx in IT files. S2x is unused and i checked, it's used for syncing modules to BASS.DLL callback functions.

I may have it. I'll search my collection for it. :)
