Sampling / Re: Where is this sample from?

This is the point where in order to get something you want, you will also have to spend some of your sweat on it and not rely on other people to do a thing for you. Learning FM synthesis is easier than ever as there is a multitude of tutorials on the internet. There's also thousands of presets freely available that you can build upon and finetune to get as close to the sound you want as possible.

As said, I couldn't recognize any of the samples.

You could give Dexed a try, it's a free re-implementation of the Yamaha DX7.

You could browse the very forum you created this thread in and find several of them. Cannot give any specific recommendations as I use none of them.

Can't say I recognize any of the samples, but if it's really important to you, you could easily go through old Bon Jovi tracks (up until the early 90s or so) and check if any of them contain those a7 samples.

MilkyTracker Feature Requests / Re: Lua/Python script plugin support
« on: November 16, 2022, 18:34:58 »
I was just saying that your reply doesn't address the feature request, it just works around it. I fully support the addition of proper, well-thought-out scripting APIs in any tracker, there's not much to add to the original request (except that it's a lot of work which is why Renoise is pretty much the only tracker(-like) that has this feature at the moment, I have been working on it on an off for years in OpenMPT and someone else also is working on basic scripting support for SchismTracker. It's certainly in the realms of possibility, but not a feature you can simply "wish for" - it needs a very dedicated person to actually want to implement it.

Sampling / Re: Where did this piano sample originally come from
« on: November 01, 2022, 13:58:08 »
The attack sounds very similar to the typical Roland Piano samples of the early 90s (e.g. Piano 2 in the GM.DLS soundfont that ships with Windows, or from a Roland SC-55/88). There appears to be a bit of a volume and filter envelope applied to it, plus the last third or so of the waveform appears to be badly looped, so it looks like the sample was processed further and it will be difficult to achieve exactly the same sound, it will require a lot of guesswork. But depending on how close you need it to sound, taking Piano 2 from GM.DLS as a start should get you pretty far already.

The Lobby / Re: How sorting downloaded music by genre?

but why it only for Windows?
Because the UI is implemented with MFC, which is not a cross-platform UI tookkit. There were practically no good cross-platform UI toolkits available in 1997 when MPT was first released. Recreating the entire UI with a different framework is a lot of work. Eventually it may be done to make OpenMPT cross-platform, but it will take a long while still.
OpenMPT runs nicely on Wine, so it can be used on Linux and macOS without much loss of comfort.

I cannot vouch for any specific tutorial. I haven't used any of them. There is a tutorial in OpenMPT's manual that shows you most of the basics. After that it's just practice, practice, practice. No tutorial will teach you how to write good music.
