MilkyTracker Bug Reports / "jam channels" and "apply" button
« on: October 24, 2020, 00:18:14 »
i think i might have discovered this awhile before, but didn't realize it might be a bug.

if i go into Config and check off Jam Channels and hit apply, I can test it right away and hear that polyphonic keyjazzing is working.
if i then hit "Ok", it goes back to being monophonic. when outside of the config page.

i then have to toggle it on and off hitting Ok, to get back to where the checkbox matches the behavior.

i've found that if i hit OK without messing around with the apply button, it works as it should .  it also seems like if i hit apply, and then cancel instead of "Ok"

there may be other subtleties or implications with this, but i'm just presenting what's most easy to reproduce.

now that i know a workaround of not hitting apply, i don't really mind so much...

i think previously i just did my polyphonic keyjazzing on the config page after hitting apply.

are you on a mac? it could be related to a problem from years ago that i remember having
https://modarchive.org/forums/index.php?topic=3360.msg13850#msg13850

are you using the latest version of milky?
that problem was supposed to be fixed in 2015, but someone's solution given even after it was fixed was to change the drive being used in options I/O-> Driver: Select Driver

so, maybe trying that would help

i also see that earlier in the thread i said i was able to play around with mixer resolution to get the correct pitch

anyway, this was 5 years ago and i don't think i've seen the problem since then, but i'm not sure how or when it was resolved, it isn't clear from that thread

edit: i just tried playing around in milkytracker on my mac, and the problem is still there
i think it might be cos' i leave the app open in between sleeps
anyway, for me the pitches are all lower than they're supposed to be
but i restarted the app and the pitches were correct
it might be that you composed the song while the app was messed up
and now you are hearing the "correct" pitches
so maybe you gotta redo it

i finally actually went in and played around in linux and google
on my debian system i when i run milkytracker a client  appears in aconnect -l called RtMidi Input Client
and i connected my nanokey to that and it worked

but yours doesn't do that based on your copy and pastes...

one thing you could trying sudo milkytracker

i'm not really a linux person, but i like to mess around sometimes
and i feel like a lot of the people i see in threads don't care what the commands they're running are doing or why
a lot of times it's beyond what i can try to understand, but i still show an appreciation

if actual midi support is a dead end you may try playing with converting the keys to qwerty
https://superuser.com/questions/1170136/translating-midi-input-into-computer-keystrokes-on-linux
since milkytracker already accepts playing notes on the qwerty keyboard
i haven't tried it and the solutions i found in that thread are home-made

i knew nothing about this but i learned about it a little on http://tedfelix.com/linux/linux-midi.html and the https://www.systutorials.com/docs/linux/man/1-aconnect/ to answer your post

have you already tried using
aconnect -o
to see milkytrackers port?

but i dunno, it seems like -l is listing everything so maybe that's not your problem

but what i'm hoping is that you actually made a typo and you were running
aconnect -i or that aconnect -l doesn't show output devices
and the schism tracker was showing up as an input midi device (to use as input in another DAW, it seems like this is a feature of schism tracker)

anyway, if you figure out both ports you can then set it up with aconnect

edit: i pasted the rest of the message not realizing you are using a PC keyboard,
i dunno if control + backspace will still work on a pc keyboard, but that's how you do it on the mac keyboard

start potentially unuseful info that i pasted before i knew what you meant:
i made a thread about this to help everyone and also so i could remember what to do
here is a re-post of what i wrote

i was going to post about this, but thru searching the forum and googling i found my own answers

on my macbook the backspace key is labelled delete, but it's placed where backspace is and functions as a backspace key, so i wondered what actual delete was if it was even possible, and i found on the forum that
Fn + Backspace is Delete

after finding this i wondered about insert, and i found out that
Control + Backspace is Insert

since i was making this informative thread, i thought i should throw in that
1 or ` does the note kill/note key-off symbol

even if no one else needs this info, i feel like i might forget and look it up on here

without the delete key i was just highlighting things and cutting them
and without the insert key i was cutting and pasting things

anyway here's a quote from where i found the delete info on this forum
Deleting: I'm using a macbook...and there is NOT a backspace AND delete key. (only delete)

I need to be able to get rid of entries w/out moving everything else!
Interesting. My Macbook has only got a backspace key, delete can be achieved by pressing  fn+backspace. When searching for "macbook keyboard" on google, I can see that this "backspace" key I got is sometimes called "delete" key which seems to be a language dependent naming issue. Anyways, press fn and that delete key, it might solve your problem.

not sure what you mean..
what's wrong with the wav's produced by disk op -> song save as wav
in my same screenshot as before you can see that it gives some options for amplification there

maybe it wasn't clear to you but the final step is to hit the "As..." button
thinking about it now, it kind of is nonsensical

MilkyTracker Support / Re: Export singular channel in .wav
« on: June 19, 2018, 07:09:14 »
the way i would go about this is solo the channel you want
and then when you do the disk op to export the song to wav, check the box for "allow muting"

hi i have not checked (i'm lazy and not on PC right now), and i don't think i ever use shift+cursor, but my guess is that you haven't entered edit mode, which you do by using the spacebar and you exit edit mode by hitting spacebar again
it really doesn't make any sense, i guess
when you are outside of edit mode it lets you play around with the instruments as if you're playing a live instrument

i guess this thread was mistakenly moved because of the topic title, which can sound like you had created 2 new tracker programs

MilkyTracker Support / macbook keys that don't exist (how to)

hi,
first of all, if you're curious i'd have you look on youtube about drawing your own samples in milkytracker, it's really amazing, that you can generate everything yourself, fairly easily

as for actual samples,
i haven't checked this out in years but, i just checked if it's still available and it is
http://tracker.modarchive.org/torrents/woolyss-chiptune-samples.zip.torrent
this is actually linked on the download page of milkytracker
http://milkytracker.titandemo.org/downloads/

what's funny is if you actually go to woolyss' site, it's not actually there, there's just a bunch of links
https://woolyss.com/chipmusic-samples.php
assuming they are some of the same that comprise the torrent, it would take you much longer to compile them all
there's also a samples links page in the "tracker" section of the site but it seems worse, maybe just cos' there are no description for any of the links, they could be some of the same ones, or maybe they're not chiptune-related
https://woolyss.com/tracking-samples.php

i actually haven't looked in the torrent so i dunno if it's actually good, but i assume it is
