Working on a tune the last couple days I am doing a WIP walkthrough mostly providing Tips & Hints for Protrekkr…As there are really NONE anywhere…

I have completed the Intro & Verse but will be bringing the 303s upfront so will be sharing many more 303 patterns for the bridge into chorus…

For those ‘On the Fence’ perhaps this will provide a bit of leaning towards the Protrekkr side of the fence…

New Aspects of Protrekkr...

After making over 4,000 PTI Instruments I have decided to concentrate on the Dual PTK-303s in Protrekkr...If you like the sound of ReBirth's 303s You'll probably like Protrekkr's 303's...

This barely made it to 2000 & to windows from DOS but much had not changed…

Once a commercial product but in the end made free…

Been giving this a look to be makin’ a tune in as it sounds fine, synth portion actually pretty good…

Just didn’t know about rendering to disc-

Testing WAV Render found that manual is useless as manual is updated version ‘2’ & not applicable. The manual right there on the GUI is though…But the WAV Render did not work for me but the Disc Streaming did. Open the ‘setup’ button & choose the ‘RenderToDisc’ option, Open your tune AND open your C root directory, Now press ‘play’ & in a few seconds you should see ‘test.wav’ show up on C root dir. Let tune play & shut off right after it ends, rename WAV & take into editor & trim off fat…

This has ‘smart patterns’ which Arguru incorporated into NoiseTrekker 2 and are STILL in present modern updated Protrekkr 2.6.2…

So we have a long lost relative here…

The more I play with this Tracker the more I like it & anyone who has used Arguru's Noisetrekker 2 should feel at home...

Virtually everything is there...The two 303's are there & have been revised to sound more like Rebirth's 303s, The Synth is still in there & sounds just great...The internal FX have all been updated & all sorted out quite nicely...

Add to this the 16 note lanes per track polyphony record onto track chords via MIDI keyboard and up to 4 FX per track...

Up to 16 key-split instrument available and also a fine loop editor as well as a clever 'time-stretch' algo that can be switched on good for bringing in drum loops to add to your percussion sector...

Standard PTK Module or Advanced PTP Module Compression Algo & Render all tracks or individual ones for further process or even sectors of any-all...

Only issue I have had so far is occasional crash changing out an instrument or a sample but I have only tried on one machine...I may not have that problem on another...At any rate there is built-in auto-save & auto-backup for those without foresight...

This is for those who wish a traditional tracking environment with NO DISTRACTIONS from VSTs (the internals are plenty), sample-based instruments & the original (but upgraded) 303s & Synth...






My main posting is over at OldschoolDAW & I have already created over 500 Instruments for Protrekkr with more to be added as time goes by...Good to see Arguru's legacy kept alive AND so close to the Noisetrekker 2 concept where the 'other' fork became the bloated overdone Renoise...

Some nights ago was up all night running water at intervals, keeping woodstove going, not really creative so I made a video of test tune 'Girl Cheese Sandwich'...

Once again though as it plays fine standalone when recording it there is the crackling, the video a bit worse than the audio version....

Tracking / TrakAx V2 & 3 Win32 Great Audio Mixer for Tracker Clips W/ BeatMatch-PitchShift>

Found this recently...What makes this stand out from many others is that it contains the Zplane Elastique Engine in some capacity thus has beatmatching (V2 & V3) and pitchshifting (V3)...




So this is great for mixing rendered pattern clips from same or DIFFERENT trackers or mixing tracker stuff with audio loops, ETC, ETC....

Version 2 was COMPLETELY FREE and can be uniextracted & ran portable but only has the beatmatching...Version 3 HAS to be installed, comes with more garbage icons & such BUTT has also pitchshifting & other enhancements...

Version 3 is NOT completely free but is full premium for 30 days then retrogrades to a freeware version with diminished features....

There was a version 4 but it was a straight-out 15 day trial with no freeware option BUTT it was more oriented towards a VIDEO APP not an audio app...

BUTT both V2 & V3 are ALSO video capable so you can also add your beatmatched & pitchshift compos to pics or videos as well...

So there you have it...The website has been gone well over 5 years & was 'faltering' by mid-2015 competing with so many other video app out there the 'ELASTIQUE' audio aspect being overshadowed...

Works real good if you got ACiD WAV you just drag onto track...If you have REGULAR WAV you should drag into the TRAKKUTTER FIRST & make sure length is trimmed up as best as possible so there are not ODDBALL transients that will 'confuse' the engine BUTT after that it does as good as ACiD WAV...

Last night created 36 instruments from sampling the OUTPUT of U-He Diva to make HighLife Instruments for MED SoundStudio...

This is probably the BEST example of why one would want to 'bounce a VSTi' as Diva sounds great but USES A TON OF CPU TO DO SO!!...

There be a trade-off though...as I wanted the instruments to be less than 10 MB each but have at least 3 samples per octave,ETC,ETC....

So have at it...These ONLY work in the HighLife engine in MED SoundStudio not in the VSTi versions of HighLife which use FXP as a instrument cluster...

Well...Saga Musix is certainly correct hands down...

But a few things from my perspective too...Yes, like Saga says music must be learned to some degree...I played bass for 9 years when young and was in numerous bands so trained my ear & also learned theory but started out jamming to records (yes, I am OLD...SO OLD!!) but this is great way to train the ear then when you listen to music you can decompile the progressions in your mind thus recompile at the QWERTY or MIDI controller....

Some will disagree with this but when I hear what is being made it is quite clear something is lacking...High BPMs, constant wall of sound with no breaks, lack of dynamics, just syncopation & filter sweeps...More akin to soundFX rather than music...

On Trackers though hard to say as there are so many & the popular ones I tend to not like...BUTT-

Recent thread I started for MED Soundstudio 2.1 is PRETTY EASY!...

The most recent version of Psycle has a LUA Piano Roll...That helps...

Try MODplug...I didn't like it...

As far as absolute simplicity of Trackers Sequential Vibes & H8Tracker are the bomb...I plan on doing a video tutorial on H8Tracker soon...

I really like SkaleTracker it is an elegant cadillac some plugs work in it just fine but I like its native AKAI format support as well as soundfonts...Great mixer & very visually appealing...

The late Arguru's Aodix 4.2 is very nice VST ONLY & ASIO ONLY very nice 'tickless' environment has INGENIOUS vertical piano roll built right into the tracker view & you can shove notes anywhere even on top of one another...Just has a VST bug you hafta test VSTs by saving a song & reopening if it crash you cannot use that plug...I did an intro with it here-

Many are using SunVox & capable if you wish more 'electronic' sound rather than sampled 'real' instruments (guitar-bass-etc)...It does read XI instruments but they sound terrible in it...No VST support & I tried years ago to even just get dev to read sf2 format but no way...You can load WAVs...I did a tune with it-

So the upshot is TRY EVERYTHING!!! What works for others probably won't 'hit the spot' for you...
